Hisami Iijima
Ms. Hisami Iijima studied with James Buswell IV at New England Conservatory of Music, and with Elmar Oliveira at SUNY Purchase College Conservatory. She went on to pursue Doctor of Musical Arts degree with Arnold Steinhardt at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey on full scholarship.
After giving New York debut recital at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 1999 as a prize winner of the Artists International Audition, she had won various orchestra positions including Harrisburg, Delaware Symphony, Des Moines Opera, Sarasota Opera, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestras, and most recently Concertmaster of the Mesa Symphony Orchestra in Arizona.
She has been a member of the Arizona Opera Orchestra since 2005-06 Season. She is also a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and on the faculty at the Arizona School for the Arts in Phoenix.
On her free time she enjoys walking or running with Niko, a Beagle mix who is a Hurricane Katrina survivor.
Her lecture recital that she gave at Rutgers University is noted in Arnold Steinhardt’s new book “Violin Dreams”.
